Marian University's Health and Well-Being department recently celebrated its inaugural "Geek Out Competition" as part of the Showcase of Scholarship. The event saw seven finalists deliver engaging presentations on a variety of personal interests, all falling under the Intellectual Well-Being umbrella.
The range of subjects, from cartoon characters to musicians and Irish Dance, demonstrated the diverse passions of the students. Four individual prizes were awarded to acknowledge outstanding performances, while the event provided all attendees with a wealth of new knowledge and an appreciation for the varied interests within their community.
The finalists and their respective topics included Skylar Thomas presenting on Noah Kahan, Priscila Espinoza discussing Tom and Jerry, and Caroline Doorley focusing on Irish Dance. Lydia Fitzgerald won Best Visualizations for her presentation on Monstera: A Vibrant Plant, Everett Carlisle secured Best Delivery for his Sorry, Not Sorry talk, Alexis Cantrell earned Most Interesting Deep Dive for her exploration into Dr. Pepper, and Hannah Laskowski took home Best Overall for her discussion on The Grudge against Gaited.
