Very Rev. Jamin S. David, J.C.L., V.G. | Diocese of Baton Rouge
The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Baton Rouge marked a significant milestone on May 8, as it broke ground for the construction of the St. Louise de Marillac Chapel. This chapel, situated in the heart of the St. Vincent de Paul campus, is designed to offer spiritual nourishment to those grappling with homelessness, hunger, or poverty. This is in addition to the food, shelter, and other resources that they receive from SVDP.
Among those who participated in the ceremonial "turning of the first sod" were Bishop Michael G. Duca and SVDP Executive Director Michael Acaldo. They were joined by Deacon Eulis Simien, architect Robert Lunsford, and representatives from various groups including the St. Louise de Marillac Chapel Committee, the SVDP Diocesan Council, the SVDP Special Works Board of Directors, and Deumite Construction.
In a symbolic gesture marking the commencement of construction work on this project, Bishop Michael G. Duca blessed the ground upon which the St. Louise de Marillac Chapel will be erected.
