Rev. James D. Conley, D.D., S.T.L. | Diocese of Lincoln website

Father Christopher Eckrich and Father Ryan Salisbury of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln are set to lead a pilgrimage to Poland from November 2-11, "in the footsteps of Pope St. John Paul II." Both priests have notable roles within their respective parishes; Father Eckrich serves as diocesan master of ceremonies and priest secretary to Bishop James Conley at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, while Father Salisbury is pastor of St. Paulinus Parish in Syracuse and Holy Trinity in Avoca.

The pilgrimage will explore the lives and origins of some of modern-day's most venerated saints, including John Paul II, Maximillian Kolbe, Teresa Benedicta, and Faustina. All these figures had their beginnings in Poland. The country has also been home to recent Eucharistic miracles and declared Jesus Christ as king of the nation in 2016.

Father Salisbury highlighted the significance of such a journey, stating: “There is a unique and powerful presence of the faith that is present in Poland.” He further explained that a pilgrimage offers an opportunity for immersion into a culture where faith has grown and flourished. Pilgrimages are viewed by Catholics as a graced opportunity that inspires faith, opens hearts to receive more blessings, and helps recognize the power and reality of faith.

With this perspective, both priests invite everyone to consider signing up for the pilgrimage. The journey will commence in Warsaw with Mass at St. Stanislaw Kostka Church - known as the Sanctuary of Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko - before proceeding to various other significant locations.

These include Glogowiec, birthplace of St. Faustina; Czestochowa for a guided tour of Jasna Gora Monastery; Auschwitz concentration camp where St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein) faced martyrdom; Krakow with Mass at Wawal Cathedral; Have No Fear Center dedicated to Saint Pope John Paul II; and Wadowice, the birthplace of John Paul II.

The pilgrimage is organized by Journey of Faith Tours. The cost per person is $3,700 (double occupancy), with the final balance due by July 26. More information can be found at journeyoffaithtours.com/dol24.
