In a poignant ceremony held at St. John’s University's Queens campus, the Kelleher Welcome Center was officially dedicated in honor of the late Denis P. Kelleher. The event brought together family, friends, and members of the St. John’s community to commemorate Kelleher's impactful legacy.
Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., President of the University, set the tone for the ceremony by remarking, "How fitting that we sing those words of welcome as we extend greetings to the Kelleher family joining us on campus today for the renaming of our Welcome Center." He continued by emphasizing the significance of celebrating Denis Kelleher's life and the enduring impact of his family's connection to St. John’s.
Speaking of the Kelleher Welcome Center's role in student recruitment, Samantha R. Wright, Chief Enrollment Officer at St. John’s University, highlighted its importance, stating, "The Kelleher Welcome Center has a profound impact on our ability to successfully recruit and enroll future Johnnies." The center serves as a hub for enrollment activities and plays a vital role in attracting prospective students to the university.
Denis P. Kelleher, Jr., Esq.,’93L expressed gratitude for the renaming of the building, saying, "I want to thank Fr. Shanley, the Board of Trustees, and everyone at St. John’s that made this renamed building happen." He acknowledged the transformative changes at the Queens campus since his time as a student and reflected on the enduring legacy of his father.
The dedication ceremony culminated in a private lunch and the presentation of a memento to commemorate the newly named Kelleher Welcome Center, symbolizing the lasting impact of Denis P. Kelleher's contributions to St. John’s University.
