Catholic men in Hawaii are being extended an invitation to join the Knights of Columbus in a journey towards a fortified faith and a life of service. According to Ryan Brown, Grand Knight of Council 14620, St. Ann, Kaneohe, the organization has evolved into a vibrant and contemporary entity, shedding its old image as an exclusive club.
Joshua Kapika, Grand Knight of St. Michael’s council in Waialua, highlights the Knights' emphasis on creating more opportunities for men to gather and pray, emphasizing faith formation. The organization aims to provide a sanctuary for the emotional and spiritual needs of its members, offering camaraderie and family-centric activities.
Patrick Guzman, Grand Knight at St. John the Apostle in Mililani, mentions the Knights' focus on family nights where prayer is integrated into gatherings, showcasing the normality of faith outside of church. Lito Alvarez, Grand Knight from St. Jude, Makakilo, emphasizes the importance of understanding and appealing to the different generations of Hawaii Catholics.
The Knights of Columbus have opened their doors to Catholic men aged 18 and above with the eMembership initiative, allowing individuals to join for free and engage with the organization at their own pace. The Hawaii State Council is launching a 60-day campaign from April 30th to June 30th, inviting fathers, brothers, and sons to pray together. Randy Tom, State Deputy for the Hawaii State Council, praises the Vivat Jesus prayer booklet provided to new eMembers, calling it a valuable tool for Catholic men.
The Knights encourage men to explore the impact of unity in faith and purpose, offering opportunities for prayer, service, and formation. This invitation is not a call to arms but a gentle nudge to enrich one's faith within a supportive brotherhood. Catholic men interested in joining the Knights of Columbus can visit pray.kofchawaii.org or kofchawaii.org, or text PRAY WITH US to #808-650-5006.
