On April 20, the Queens Distance Runners (QDR) will host their inaugural track meet at St. John's University’s Queens, NY campus. The event, set to begin at 8:30 a.m., will take place rain or shine on the track surrounding DaSilva Memorial Field. The collaboration between the local running club and the university was made possible through the partnership with St. John’s University.

The initiative to bring the track meet to St. John’s was driven by the Queens Distance Runners' desire to create a space for the running community in Queens. Mr. Browne, an avid runner and University administrator, highlighted the importance of inclusivity by stating, "Mindful that the spring semester is winding down, our goal was to schedule the track meet so that the broad St. John’s campus community can participate."

Kevin Montalvo, the Founder of Queens Distance Runners, emphasized the significance of the event in enriching the vibrant culture of Queens. He expressed, “In a borough rich with diversity, Queens stands out for its vibrant culture, yet lacked a thriving running community.” Montalvo further added, “With our inaugural QDR track meet at St. John's University, we pave the way for the next generation of Queens runners, ensuring they have the spaces and opportunities to flourish. All are welcome to attend, participate, or just cheer the runners.”

Founded in 2013, the Queens Distance Runners club has been instrumental in helping athletes improve their distance running abilities through training and events in the borough. With over 2,000 members, the club hosts various pioneering race events, including the Queens Marathon and Jackson Heights Mile.

The track meet at St. John’s University will include a range of events catering to different running preferences and skill levels, such as the 5,000 Meters, Mile, 800 Meters, 400 Meters, SMR, 200 Meters, 4x400, and a Kids’ 50-Meter Dash. This event aims to provide a platform for runners of all backgrounds to participate and showcase their abilities.
