Walsh University recently marked the 10-year anniversary of its Dance Marathon Program, Cavathon, with a successful fundraising event benefiting Akron Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Miracle Network. The year-long fundraising campaign concluded with a 12-hour dance marathon that raised an impressive $31,000.
The theme for Cavathon 2024 was inspired by the Pixar movie "UP!" where students donned t-shirts with the message "Miracles are out there," symbolizing hope and positivity. The event saw 65 Walsh students coming together to support the cause, with activities ranging from learning morale dances to engaging in color team game competitions.
During the event, students had the privilege of listening to inspiring stories from 8 different miracle families who shared their journeys with Akron Children’s Hospital, showcasing strength and perseverance. Emily Kaseda, the Overall Director of Cavathon 2024, expressed her pride in the participants and emphasized the impact of their hard work on the children's lives, stating, "There is no better feeling than watching the kids smile during the final dance."
The day concluded with a heartwarming final dance where the miracle kids joined the Walsh students, creating a memorable and touching moment for all involved. The Cavathon 2024 executive board, led by Emily Kaseda along with Anna West and Olivia Vuyancih, worked tirelessly alongside 12 other board members to organize the successful fundraising event.
Reflecting on the experience, Kaseda shared, "We are very fortunate to get to know these beautiful kids and their amazing personalities," highlighting the deep connection forged between the students and the cause they support.
Cavathon is part of the Children's Miracle Network, a charitable organization that brings together students from various educational institutions to raise funds for Miracle Network hospitals. The proceeds from Cavathon are directed towards Akron Children's Hospital, contributing to the betterment of children's health and well-being.
