Pro-life organizations across the country have come together to call on the Republican Party to oppose a resolution that seeks to criminalize women. In a statement released on April 3, 2024, these groups made their stance clear, stating, “As national and state pro-life organizations, representing tens of millions of pro-life men, women, and children across the country, let us be clear: We state unequivocally that we do not support any measure seeking to criminalize or punish women and we stand firmly opposed to include such penalties in legislation.”

The leaders of these organizations emphasize that punishing women does not protect the unborn. They argue that supporting such a resolution ignores the reality that many women are pressured into abortion. Referencing research from the Charlotte Lozier Institute, which indicates that over 60% of women who obtained an abortion reported experiencing coercion or pressure, the groups stand united in their opposition to any measures that would penalize women in such situations.

The resolution in question stands in contrast to recent pro-woman legislation that has been passed by state lawmakers. As the North Dakota GOP Convention takes place in Fargo this week, the issue of women's reproductive rights and the protection of the unborn remains at the forefront of the discussion.

One of the prominent organizations involved in this movement is Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, a network of more than one million pro-life Americans dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives. The group also has a special focus on promoting pro-life women leaders in the political arena.

As the debate over women's reproductive rights continues to unfold, pro-life groups are urging the GOP to stand against any measures that would criminalize or punish women for their choices regarding abortion.
