An estimated 550 people gathered at St. Peter Church in Lincoln on March 23 to celebrate its rededication after a two-year capital campaign. The Mass, led by Bishop James Conley, marked a new chapter for the parish.

"Bishop Conley acknowledged what a 'beautiful and happy day' it was for the parish. He told those in attendance, 'By your leadership, sacrifice and stewardship, you have created something beautiful for God,'" the article stated.

The rededication involved traditional rituals, including the consecration of the new altar and the anointing of the walls with chrism. Bishop Conley emphasized the significance of the altar, stating, "It’s like we’re clothing Jesus and preparing a place for him… creating a suitable place to give worship and praise to God."

The church's renovations, inspired by Father Clark's vision, included intricate details and ornamentation. Karen Largen, a member of the design team, highlighted the transformation, noting, "We haven’t added a single square foot, but it was just lacking in detail and ornamentation, and we did every square inch."

The new design of the church, crafted in the Romanesque style, features elements reminiscent of historical basilicas. Father Clark expressed his admiration for the Holy Spirit window above the sanctuary, describing it as a representation of the project's origin in the Holy Spirit.

John Kuchta, a trustee for the parish, reflected on the community's support for the renovations, stating, "We were lucky just to build the church. To see what’s happened here, it’s just been unbelievable."

The parish's commitment to the project, supported by 542 households pledging $9 million, resulted in a successful renovation completed on time and under budget. The improvements, including new stained-glass windows and murals, aim to enhance the spiritual experience for parishioners.

With a focus on providing learning opportunities, the church plans to offer Bible studies and resources explaining the significance of the newly added features. Vern Steiner, president of The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies, expressed his enthusiasm for the educational aspect, stating, "It was spiritually so enriching. I hope it will have a similar effect on people who pick it up and make their way through it."

As the parish looks towards the future, Kuchta emphasized the importance of the established endowment, ensuring long-term maintenance for the church and school facilities. The renovations have not only enhanced the physical space but also unified parishioners, setting a foundation for continued growth and spiritual enrichment.

"It’s more befitting for the grandeur of God," Largen remarked. "We already have a good Sunday Mass attendance. I think this renovation will only bolster that."
