Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita

Bishop Carl A. Kemme, during the annual Mass of Institution for Readers and Acolytes at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita, installed six seminarians as Readers and two as Acolytes. Among the seminarians installed were Peter Bergkamp, Kyle Demel, Isaac Hilger, Jacob McGuire, Luke Meyerhoff, Koby Nguyen, Dominic Jirak, and Conrad Sissell.

Addressing the newly installed readers, Bishop Kemme emphasized the importance of faithfully handing on the Word of God. Quoting St. Paul's second letter to Timothy, the bishop charged them to proclaim the word persistently, whether convenient or inconvenient, with patience and teaching. He highlighted the significance of humility, selfless love, and confidence in proclaiming the Word of God effectively.

Regarding the acolytes, Bishop Kemme stressed the need for reverence in their service. Quoting verses from Leviticus and Psalms, he reminded them of the sanctity of their ministry and the importance of conducting their work with reverence in the Lord's sanctuary. The bishop encouraged the acolytes to approach their service with a deep sense of reverence and decorum, particularly when handling the Blessed Sacrament and serving the Eucharist to the sick.

In his closing remarks, Bishop Kemme asked the faithful to pray for the newly installed ministers, expressing his hope that their ministries would ignite a greater love and desire for ordained ministry. Both the ministries of Readers and Acolytes serve as transitions to the permanent diaconate, in accordance with Canon 1035.

The Mass of Institution served as a significant milestone for the seminarians, marking their commitment to serving the Church through the ministry of the Word and the altar. Bishop Kemme's words underscored the importance of dedication, reverence, and passion in fulfilling these sacred duties, aiming to inspire a revival of proclamation and Eucharistic devotion within the Church.
