Eleven priests will celebrate anniversaries of their ordination to the priesthood during the Chrism Mass on March 25 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. The Mass, open to the public, will honor the dedicated service of these priests who have collectively devoted 365 years to the Church.

Among the jubilarians is Msgr. Adrian Herbek, who is marking his 65th anniversary of ordination. Reflecting on his priesthood, Msgr. Herbek expressed gratitude for the support of the laity, stating, "The people in the pews taught me how to be a good parish priest." He encouraged continued support for priests and advised those in formation to "be in touch with your humanity and do not deny it, and lose all vestiges of clericalism."

Father Greg Pawloski, who spent time in mission work in Venezuela, emphasized the importance of being present to the people and learning from them. Father Pawloski retired from active ministry in 2022 and now resides at Bonacum House for retired priests in Lincoln.

Eight priests will celebrate their silver jubilees at the Chrism Mass, all ordained in 1999 by Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz. Father Christopher Kubat, known for his work in healthcare ministries, highlighted the significance of helping those in need and the importance of good example from priest mentors for seminarians.

Father Thomas Bush, reflecting on his years as a pastor and teacher, stressed the impact of teaching catechism on his own faith and that of his students. He also emphasized the need for practical education in parish operations for seminarians.

Father Raymond Jansen, who spent 20 years as a professor of philosophy, now serves as a pastor and continues to form future priests and pastors. Father Jamie Hottovy, utilizing his architectural background, has been involved in design and renovation projects for churches and schools within the diocese.

Father Andrew Menke, known for his work in liturgy, shared his surprise at the unexpected aspects of priesthood, emphasizing trust in the Lord's plan. Father Daniel Rayer, with a background in canon law, has held various administrative roles in the diocese and currently serves as a chaplain.

Father Gary Coulter, who has focused on retreats and healing ministry, highlighted the ups and downs of priesthood and the importance of the laity's sacrificial love. Msgr. Richard Gyhra, with international service experience, expressed gratitude for the priesthood and emphasized the bond among priests in striving for holiness.

The Chrism Mass, where Bishop James Conley will bless the sacred oils, serves as a powerful reminder of the service each priest is called to live. It is a time for priests to renew their vows and reflect on their commitment to the Church and its people.
