The Diocese of Baton Rouge, under the leadership of Most Reverend Michael G. Duca, Bishop of Baton Rouge, is set to host a Synod Listening Session on March 18, 2024. This event is part of the ongoing synodal process initiated by Pope Francis.

In a statement, Most Reverend Michael G. Duca highlighted the significance of the synodal process, stating, "Dear Brothers and Sisters: In late 2021 and early 2022, the Diocese of Baton Rouge responded to Pope Francis’ call for the entire Church to engage in a synodal process officially entitled Toward a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission."

The participation of the local community in previous listening sessions has been crucial, with Most Reverend Michael G. Duca noting, "Your participation in these sessions led to a report that was presented to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), demonstrating our local church’s commitment to journey together and to reflect upon the story of faith as experienced by the people of Baton Rouge."

The upcoming session on March 18, 2024, will be facilitated by Father Jamin David, Vicar General of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Most Reverend Michael G. Duca urged all the faithful to participate, either in person at the Catholic Life Center or by providing feedback online through the diocesan website.

In closing, Most Reverend Michael G. Duca emphasized the importance of unity and humility in the synodal process, stating, "Once again, we join Pope Francis in his desire for the church to 'walk together,' and while there may be disagreement, I know the process will encourage listening with humility to the needs of our Church and the world."

The Diocese of Baton Rouge's Synod Listening Session on March 18, 2024, aims to further engage the local community in shaping the future direction of the Church in accordance with the principles of communion, participation, and mission.
