Very Rev. Jamin S. David, J.C.L., V.G. | Diocese of Baton Rouge
The Diocese of Baton Rouge recently celebrated the dedication and commitment of seven religious men and women who have collectively served the Church for a remarkable 440 years. The Jubilee and Consecrated Life Mass took place at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Baton Rouge on Feb. 15, in honor of World Consecration Day, which fell on Feb. 2.
Among those commemorating significant milestones this year are Brother Ramon Daunis SC, celebrating 75 years of service; Brother Ray Hebert SC, Paul Montero SC, and Marcus Turcotte SC, each marking 65 years; Sister Judith Brun CSJ and Sister Eileen Rowe FMOL, both with 60 years of service; and Brother Harold Harris SC, recognizing 50 years of dedication.
Bishop Michael G. Duca presided over the Mass and congratulated the jubilarians, acknowledging the value of age and experience in their service to the Church. He emphasized the constant presence of God in their lives, offering guidance and support through all circumstances.
During the ceremony, the jubilarians renewed their vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, symbolized by holding lit candles. Bishop Duca highlighted the importance of love as the foundation of their commitment, evolving from a vow of religious life to a deep love for God manifested in their interactions with others.
Reflecting on the Gospel reading of the day, the Bishop emphasized the journey of religious individuals in aligning their hearts with the teachings of Jesus, enabling them to share Christ's love with those they encounter. He recalled a profound statement about vocation, describing it as a call that transcends self-understanding.
As the Mass concluded, Bishop Duca offered a blessing for continued prosperity and commended the jubilarians with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” The religious members left the church with a sense of renewal, gathering for fellowship as the hymn “City of God” filled the space.
The ceremony was a touching tribute to the unwavering dedication and service of these individuals, embodying the spirit of love, faith, and commitment that defines their vocation.
