Iona University has appointed Gary B. Grant as the senior vice president of Advancement & External Affairs, effective February 12, 2024. Grant brings over 35 years of experience in philanthropy and management to the role, and he joins Iona from the Florida Institute of Technology, where he served as the senior vice president for Advancement since May 2017. At Florida Tech, Grant achieved significant success in growing unrestricted annual giving and overall philanthropy.
In his new position at Iona, Grant will be responsible for providing vision, strategic direction, and innovative management for the Office of Advancement & External Affairs. His duties will include fundraising, campaign planning and execution, and communication. President Seamus Carey, Ph.D., expressed excitement about Grant's appointment, stating, "We are excited to welcome Gary to support Iona's growth and help bring our ambitious goals to fruition."
Grant's impressive career in fundraising began while he was a student at the University of Chicago. He raised over $1 million in pledges by calling alumni for gifts. After earning his law degree, Grant returned to the University of Chicago to serve as associate dean of the graduate school of social work and later as a senior development officer and director of major gifts for the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Grant's experience in education and healthcare will be valuable to Iona as the university continues to develop its NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences and its new 28-acre campus in Bronxville, N.Y. Grant said, "I am honored and excited to join Iona University as it continues to build toward such a bright future."
