Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita
Bishop Carl A. Kemme dedicated the altar in Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School's new chapel, emphasizing the importance of the school's mission as a ministry of the Catholic Church. He stated, "This is and must always be the mission of our Catholic high schools. That is why what we do here tonight and what takes place in this chapel day by day is so vital for Kapaun to fulfill its mandate and mission."
The dedication took place on January 25th, with the bishop anointing the new altar and dedicating the chapel during a Mass. Reflecting on the purpose of churches and chapels, Bishop Kemme said that they are spaces for sacred worship, devotion, prayer, and reflection. He highlighted the significance of the Mass and other spiritual practices in forming individuals as disciples of the Lord.
Expressing his hopes for the chapel, Bishop Kemme stated, "I pray that this chapel will truly be the center, the heart of our school... I pray that this place, the chapel, where Christ the teacher will be present day after day, where Christ the priest will offer himself again and again for the salvation of his brothers and sisters, where Christ the merciful will shower sinners with his compassion and reconciliation – here in this place."
The bishop extended his gratitude to the donors, the KMC community, and those involved in the founding of the new chapel. He expressed his hope that God would reward each individual for their contribution and concluded his homily by seeking the intercession of Servant of God Fr. Emil Kapaun.
Bishop Kemme asked for the strength of Fr. Emil Kapaun's prayers, wishing that all those associated with the school would find the same spiritual source that inspired Fr. Kapaun in his faith and service to the Church. He concluded, "Servant of God, Father Kapaun, pray for us."
