The Diocese of Brooklyn observed President's Day Feb. 21.
"Happy President's Day," the Diocese said on Facebook. "As we celebrate, may we remember to lead lives filled with love and marked by grace."
The diocese Facebook page featured an American flag with a quote from President Ronald Reagan: "Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly, leave the rest to God."
John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic to serve as president of the United States. History.com notes that, at the time of his election in the 1960s, anti-Catholic bias was "a considerable obstacle for Kennedy to overcome."
The USCCB offers this prayer for civic leaders: "God our Father, You guide everything in wisdom and love. Accept the prayers we offer for our nation. In your goodness, watch over those in authority so that people everywhere may enjoy freedom, security and peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Five U.S. Presidents have been born in the state of New York, according to Yahoo. The presidents born in New York were Martin Van Buren, Millard Fillmore, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Donald Trump, News10 reported.
More than half of the men who have served as president were born in either Virginia, Ohio, New York or Massachusetts, Yahoo said.
