College Knights of Columbus have been honored for their exemplary service of chopping firewood for the elderly of Houghton, Michigan, during last winter.
Houghton averages 400 inches of snow a year, making winter a difficult time for many senior citizens.
"In recognition of the Knights’ exemplary service and accomplishments last year, Michigan Technological University Council 17237 received the Outstanding College Council Award at the 55th College Councils Conference— the Knights of Columbus’ annual gathering for members of councils on college campuses," a release issued on the Knights' website said.
These young college Knights have also been recognized for fostering faith on their college campus during the Winter Carnival Celebration last year. They constructed a chapel out of ice that could hold up to 200 people. During the carnival weekend, over 400 people attended Mass in the ice chapel.
"It’s these examples of brotherhood and service— and many more— that have led to the council’s growth and their recognition as this year’s Outstanding College Council," the Knights said in the release.
