Ascension Catholic Church Oak Park, IL issued the following announcement on Aug. 2
Come Hell or High Water: The Battle for Turkey Creek is an award winning film that follows the painful but inspiring journey of Derrick Evans, a Boston teacher who moves home to coastal Mississippi when the graves of his ancestors are bulldozed to make way for the sprawling city of Gulfport. Over the course of a decade, Derrick and his neighbors stand up to powerful corporate interests and politicians and face ordeals that include Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil disaster in their struggle for self-determination and environmental justice. The video will be available to view August 2-4, with the webinar on August 5 at 7pm CST. View details about the video here.
We have purchased tickets for up to 150 households to view the film for free and attend the webinar with filmmaker Leah Mahan and Derrick Evans, the activist featured in the film.
