The Knights of Columbus Council 157 in Manhattan, New York recently released a video on Facebook that shows how the organization is expressing its gratitude to frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They have gone above and beyond their normal calling to take care of elderly and sick patients,” Knights Supreme Director Carmine Musumeci said of the essential workers.

Musumeci’s son Justin, a Grand Knight in the council, joined his father to offer his appreciation to the selfless workers.

“We’re at downtown Manhattan,” Justin Musumeci said in the video. “I’m looking forward to picking up some sandwiches and bringing them to essential workers at a nursing home on the Upper East Side.”

Ben Bellingeri of Council 443 said that helping his city was a meaningful experience at a time like this.

“New York is the hardest city hit by the pandemic,” Bellingeri said. “One of the main components of the Knights of Columbus is charity. So today we’re giving back to the community.”

“That’s why I come to work every day, that’s why the staff comes to work every day,” Michael Monahan, executive director of Mary Manning Walsh nursing home, said in the video.

Monahan said that the support provided by the Knights of Columbus is a sizable aid to his organization.

“We would do anything that’s needed to be able to give back to the essential workers,” Justin Musumeci said. “We really believe that it is our duty to give back. It’s our privilege and our pleasure to be able to do so.”

Individuals interested in getting involved are invited to donate to the Knights of Columbus or volunteer alongside of them.
