The Knights of Columbus Council 11534 and Church of the Holy Cross in Overland Park, Kansas posted an item on Facebook about the Leave No Neighbor Behind program.
The Knights acknowledged that BIll Schneider, a 3rd-Degree Knight, used a 3D printer to help create a face mask-securing tool called an EarSaver. Schneider has been leading a group of students with the Church of the Holy Cross Catholic School to produce 1,000 EarSavers for the first responders who are working in New York.
“Coordinating with the PTO, eight families and other parishioners, they produced in 13 days with eight 3D printers 2,400 EarSavers for health care workers,” the Knights wrote. “Local Kansas City doctors and nurses have been heading to New York to help with the fight. They are away from their families and living in hotels, with no refrigerator and five microwaves for 500 people.”
In addition to the EarSavers, the families from Holy Cross have helped facilitate the creation of care packages. The packages, cumulatively, contained 1,300 EarSavers, thank you notes, 150 fabric masks, wipes and hand sanitizer, games, puzzles and much more. Additionally, Jack Stack BBQ sent barbecue for 25 people that was marked down by 75% for nurses and doctors.
EarSavers have also been donated to a number of other health providers and hospitals.
