Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls in Philadelphia has announced a new partnership with Holy Family University to offer a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification as part of its Healthcare Careers in 1-2-3 College/Career program. The collaboration will give ten seniors from Saint Hubert the chance to earn their CNA credentials while completing their high school studies.

Students participating in the program will study medical terminology, healthcare ethics, and nursing assistant patient care alongside their regular coursework. Classes are scheduled to take place at Saint Hubert’s newly renovated simulator lab, while laboratory sessions will be held at Holy Family University.

A memorandum of understanding was signed at Saint Hubert’s by representatives from the high school, Holy Family University, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Office of Catholic Education.

“Through this program, students will leave high school not only with their diploma, but also with a professional certification that can jump-start their careers,” said Dr. Anne Prisco, president of Holy Family University. “At Holy Family, we’re proud to walk alongside them as they gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in healthcare and beyond.”

Upon completion of the program and successful passage of the Pennsylvania State exam, students are guaranteed job placement with Jefferson Healthcare.

Dr. Lizanne Pando, President of Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls said of the Certified Nursing Assistance Program with Holy Family University, “Our students are reaching higher every day. We are not surprised that our ‘Healthcare Careers in 123’ has expanded to allied health certifications that will direct these students right into the workforce with guaranteed job placement.” Dr. Pando continued, “We worked with Jefferson Health on recommendations to expand our allied health offerings and the Certified Nursing Assistant program was the perfect fit!”

The CNA initiative is supported by Holy Family University through equipment provision for course instruction and received funding from the Connelly Foundation for capital renovations including development of the simulator lab.

The Connelly Foundation supports organizations focused on education, human services, culture, and civics in Philadelphia.
