Catholic sisters are joining together to help support their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sisters on the Frontlines is a new program developed by Catholic Extension to reach individuals and families most affected by the coronavirus. Catholic Extension has been working with the Conrad N. Hilton Fund for Sisters, GHR Foundation, Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, The Raskob Foundation for Catholic Activities and Sisters of Mercy of the Americas to form the new organization focused on helping people during the pandemic.

In this initiative, 1,000 sisters will each be given $1,000 to help a family or individual suffering because of COVID-19. The money initially will be provided with seed funding, but there is an additional need for donations through Catholic Extension.

“I’ve often said that you cannot go to the poorest places of the world and not find the presence of the Catholic Church,” said Catholic Extension President Fr. Jack Wall. “And so often the face of ministry among the poor is religious women. Their work is more important now than ever before, and Catholic Extension is excited to be a part of this alliance to directly fund the sisters whose communities were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.”
