Walsh University has received accreditation from the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP) for its undergraduate Exercise Science and Master of Science in Exercise Physiology programs. ASEP is recognized as the only professional organization in the United States focused solely on advancing exercise physiology as a healthcare profession.

In its notification, ASEP praised Walsh University for the quality and detail of its accreditation materials. The organization described the College of Health Sciences at Walsh as “a model for other programs seeking accreditation.”

“This is a big moment for our students and for Walsh,” said Dr. Kelsey Scanlon, Program Director and Chair of Exercise Science. “ASEP accreditation tells future employers and graduate programs that our students are graduating from a program grounded specifically in exercise physiology, not a broad, general track. What makes Walsh stand out is how intentionally we blend rigorous science with hands-on application. Our students don’t just study concepts. They apply them every day in our labs and clinical settings, working alongside faculty who are active clinicians and researchers.”

Dr. Kimberly Cleveland, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, commented on the significance of this recognition: “Healthcare continues to evolve, and communities need professionals who are scientifically trained, clinically prepared, and ethically grounded,” Dr. Cleveland said. “This accreditation affirms that Walsh is meeting that need with intention and integrity. Our programs are designed not only to prepare students for certification and advanced study, but to equip them to improve health outcomes and serve others with competence and compassion.”

The ASEP accreditation confirms that Walsh’s curriculum meets competencies specific to professional exercise physiologists. It sets these programs apart from broader exercise science degrees while reinforcing exercise physiology as an established healthcare field. Accreditation also prepares students academically should they choose to pursue the Exercise Physiologist Certified credential.

With this new status, both faculty and students at Walsh will have increased access to ASEP membership benefits such as networking opportunities, certification pathways, and scholarly publication resources.

Walsh University is a private Catholic institution located in North Canton, Ohio. The university offers more than 70 undergraduate majors—including those in arts and sciences, business, nursing, education, and health sciences—and seven graduate degrees (official website). Founded under the Brothers of Christian Instruction affiliation (official website), it promotes academic excellence along with personal development through community service (official website). Its campus spans 143 acres with modern facilities (official website).

Founded in 1997, ASEP works nationally to unite exercise physiologists by promoting both scientific foundations and clinical applications within the discipline.
