Students from Embry-Riddle and Melbourne Central Catholic serve in Dominican Republic mission

Five students from Embry-Riddle traveled to the Dominican Republic over spring break to participate in a water project in El Corozo, according to an April 10 announcement. The group worked alongside local residents, helping to dig trenches that will bring water access to 27 families. During the same period, seniors and staff members from Melbourne Central Catholic High School also spent time in the country, engaging with local communities through fellowship and service.
These activities highlight ongoing efforts by young people to support communities abroad through practical work and relationship-building. The students’ involvement included playing games with elementary children, teaching English lessons, and creating spaces filled with laughter and friendship throughout their stay.
The Mission Office is offering additional opportunities for service later this year. A dental mission is scheduled for April 21-26, followed by a construction mission set for June 20-27. Those interested are encouraged to contact Zwamy Parra at the provided phone number for more information.
The Diocese of Orlando was established in 1968 and encompasses Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia Counties. It includes 79 parishes, 11 missions, two basilicas and 43 Catholic schools under the leadership of Bishop James Noonan according to the Diocese of Orlando.
As these mission trips continue throughout the year, organizers hope that more participants will join future projects aimed at serving both spiritual and practical needs within international communities.
