St. John’s University student recounts attending Winter Olympics hockey game in Milan

A junior at St. John’s University shared on Mar. 20 an account of attending the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, during a semester abroad program based in Rome. The student described finding affordable tickets to see the Men’s US hockey team play against Germany and traveling with her boyfriend for what she called an extraordinary adventure.
The experience is notable as it highlights opportunities available to students participating in international study programs. The student said that exploring Milan and attending the Olympic event provided memorable moments, including enjoying familiar foods and joining a lively crowd of Americans and Germans cheering for their teams.
The student wrote, “I wouldn’t say I’m a die-hard hockey fan, but I do enjoy going to New York Islanders games back home and getting rowdy with the crowd. The scene at the Olympic hockey rink was no different. Our seats were in a section filled with excited Americans and Germans, shouting and cheering throughout the game.” She added that when the US team won, “we were ecstatic.”
