On the weekend of January 17-18, parishes across the Archdiocese of Louisville will hold the annual Opportunities for Life (OFL) collection. This event is organized in collaboration with the four Kentucky dioceses and is scheduled near the anniversary of Roe v. Wade to support a pro-life message in Kentucky.

Funds raised through this collection will be used to assist pregnant women and families facing crisis situations. The proceeds will help provide resources, material assistance, and programs offered by Catholic Charities of Louisville and the Office of Family and Life Ministries.

The OFL collection supports programs that aid new and expecting parents. Catholic Charities of Louisville oversees these efforts through its Community Support Services department. The Lifeline Fund offers financial assistance to pregnant or new mothers through initiatives like Mother-Infant Care and Mama Matters. Additionally, parish volunteers receive professional social work guidance as they support expecting parents.

Catholic Charities and the Office of Family and Life Ministries also manage “Walking with Moms in Need,” a local version of a national program where parishes accompany pregnant and parenting women who require support. These parishes are connected to mothers and families referred by partnering agencies.

Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre expressed gratitude for community participation: “Thank you for considering your gift for Opportunities for Life. Please pray that those experiencing an untimely pregnancy will have the courage to seek help and choose life and that our culture strengthens its resolve to support both unborn children and their parents.”

The Archdiocese of Louisville serves as a Catholic ecclesiastical territory in Kentucky, overseeing parishes, ministries, schools, and community outreach across central and southern regions of the state. It operates under the guidance of Archbishop Fabre from its base in Louisville, providing spiritual guidance, sacramental services, faith education, stewardship tools, ministry leadership, pastoral care, religious services, archives preservation for research purposes, and promoting justice within its communities according to its official website.
