Kamren D. Moore, a sophomore at Christian Brothers University (CBU) in Memphis, Tennessee, is balancing academic achievement, athletic pursuits and spiritual growth as he continues his undergraduate studies in Applied Psychology.

Moore’s goals this year include earning a spot on the Dean’s List for the fourth consecutive semester, helping the men’s basketball team reach the Gulf South Conference tournament, setting personal records as a sprinter on the track team and “continuing to spread God’s love around campus.”

His family has influenced his ambitions: his grandfather is a preacher, inspiring Moore to consider ministry work with athletes; his father played in the NFL, teaching him perseverance through sports; and his mother, a CBU alumna and nurse practitioner, encouraged him to embrace both academic challenges and opportunities.

Christian Brothers University offers undergraduate and graduate programs across disciplines such as arts, business, engineering and sciences. The university promotes community service and faith-based values within its educational framework. It also supports student growth through on-campus housing and activities while emphasizing Lasallian principles that focus on intellectual development and spiritual inspiration. More information about these aspects can be found on the official website.

Moore is active beyond academics and athletics. He serves as secretary of both the Black Student Association and CBU’s chapter of Psi Chi (the International Honor Society in Psychology), participates in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and acts as student chaplain for both basketball and track teams.

Head Men’s Basketball Coach John T. Reilly said: “Kam Moore is a leader. He is an extremely hard worker. He is very smart. Most importantly, he sincerely cares about people. He also makes everyone in our group better every day. His spirit and enthusiasm are amazing. I mean that sincerely.”

Moore described himself as a “people person,” noting that “CBU’s close-knit community offers a great opportunity for me to grow and become the best version of myself.”

Nmeso Nnebedum, who graduated from CBU last spring after playing basketball with Moore, said: “Kam is a great person and has a bright future ahead of him. I was extremely grateful to share the locker room with him but also blessed to call him a brother in Christ.”

Wilson Phillips, Administrative Coordinator for Student Affairs at CBU, added: “Kam is one of those students who just lifts the spirit: steadfast, humble, talented, and authentic. Not one for the spotlight, Kam leads from within – earning respect by offering it unselfishly to others. With a quiet resilience and undeniable purpose, Kam makes an impact on his teammates and our larger campus community.” Phillips continued: “I often sit and thank God for the countless students he’s allowed me to meet over the years. With Kam, I’m grateful that God has used Kam to teach me.”

Reflecting on what it means to live according to Lasallian values—central tenets at CBU—Moore said: “I aim to serve others like Jesus would… To be a light and let my light shine upon others.”

Moore expects to graduate in spring 2028.
