Christian Brothers University appoints Ronald L. Brandon as next president

Ronald L. Brandon has been named the next president of Christian Brothers University (CBU), with his term beginning on June 1, 2026. Brandon is currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Administration and Finance at CBU, where he has served as part of the senior leadership team for over eight years.
The decision comes after a period of transition at the university. The Board of Trustees expressed confidence in Brandon’s ability to guide CBU forward during this time. Emily Greer, Chair of the CBU Board of Trustees, stated, “Christian Brothers University is at an important moment. After thoughtful deliberation and discernment, the Board concluded that this is the right leadership decision for CBU at this time. Ron has been deeply engaged in the work of strengthening the University, understands the challenges and opportunities before us, and brings a steady, mission-centered approach to leadership. The Board has great confidence in his ability to lead CBU forward.”
Brandon has worked closely with Interim President Brother Chris Englert, FSC, as well as other university leaders and trustees to improve financial management and modernize operations at CBU. He also played a key role in establishing a shared-services partnership with Lewis University aimed at increasing efficiency and collaboration while supporting the university’s mission.
A graduate of Christian Brothers University himself, Brandon is noted for his commitment to service-driven leadership within Memphis. Before taking on his current position at CBU, he was Chief Financial Officer for the Catholic Diocese of Memphis and held senior roles with both YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South and ProTech Systems Group.
Upon accepting his new appointment, Brandon said: “I am deeply honored by the Board’s trust and grateful for the opportunity to serve Christian Brothers University in this new role. CBU changed my life, and its mission continues to inspire my work. I believe strongly in the power of a Catholic, Lasallian education rooted in faith, service, and community. Together, we will continue building a University that expands opportunity for students, strengthens partnerships across Memphis, and remains sustainable and mission-focused for generations to come.”
Brother Chris Englert highlighted Brandon’s contributions during his interim presidency: “Ron Brandon has been an invaluable partner during my time as interim president,” said Brother Chris Englert, FSC. “He leads with integrity, clarity, and a deep love for this University. I have seen firsthand his commitment to our mission, our students, and our people. I am confident that CBU will be well served by his leadership as president.”
Brother Chris had previously indicated that his tenure as interim president would last two years through a transitional period ending with this academic year. Until June 2026 when he assumes office fully as president-elect; Brandon will collaborate closely with Brother Chris along with board members plus campus leaders ensuring continuity throughout changes made internally ahead.
As incoming president—Brandon intends focusing efforts upon advancing core Catholic/Lasallian values alongside expanding access/opportunity amongst students; investing further into faculty/staff resources; building regional partnerships benefiting both Memphis area plus wider region whilst safeguarding long-term financial stability.
