Benedictine University’s Timothy Marin elected to national board for church-related colleges

Timothy Marin, PhD, an alumnus of Benedictine University and current Director of Institutional Effectiveness at the institution, has been elected to the National Board of the Lilly Network for Church-Related Colleges and Universities. Dr. Marin is also a Professor of Chemistry and Physics at Benedictine University, where he has taught since 2003.

Dr. Marin earned his doctorate at Northwestern University and completed postdoctoral research at Argonne National Laboratory and the Notre Dame Radiation Laboratory. He has maintained ongoing collaborations with these institutions as well as with the Synchrotron Radiation Center affiliated with the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His research spans topics such as ultrafast photophysics, radiation-induced fast kinetics, radical chemistry, and vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy, resulting in over 50 peer-reviewed publications.

He has held various roles within the American Chemical Society (ACS), including Chair of the Chicago Section and membership on the National ACS Council. Dr. Marin is also Vice President and founder of the Chicago area chapter of the Society of Catholic Scientists.

The Lilly Network was established in 1991 with support from Lilly Endowment Inc., aiming to enhance church-related higher education through fellowships and grants. It operates out of Christ College at Valparaiso University in Indiana. Benedictine University became a member institution in 1999.
