Benedictine University hosts prayer service honoring Our Lady of Fatima

The Benedictine University community gathered on Monday, December 2, for an evening of prayer and reflection in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. The event took place at St. Benedict Chapel in Lownik Hall and was attended by students, faculty, staff, and local residents.
The service highlighted the historical and spiritual importance of the Marian apparitions that occurred in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. These apparitions have been formally recognized by the Catholic Church. The program also addressed the later private revelations reported by Sr. Lucia de Jesus Rosa dos Santos, one of the original visionaries.
A notable part of the ceremony included the display of a replica of the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. President Joseph J. Foy, PhD, participated in a traditional act by placing a crown on the statue.
After this moment, attendees prayed the Rosary together as a sign of unity and meditation. The evening ended with a reception in Lownik Hall’s lobby where participants could discuss the event and its meaning.
