Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia sent a letter on Mar. 17 to the Muslim community, offering greetings and prayers as they prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

The message comes at a time described by Pérez as one of global unease and uncertainty, highlighting the importance of interfaith solidarity and prayer for peace. The archbishop’s outreach reflects ongoing efforts by religious leaders in the region to foster understanding among different faith traditions.

“On behalf of the Catholic Church of Philadelphia, I extend prayerful greetings as you prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr! May you be filled with peace and joy as you conclude Ramadan’s month-long vigil of fasting, prayer, and works of mercy,” Pérez said in his letter. He continued, “This period of reflection takes place during a time of global unease and uncertainty. As peoples of various faith traditions throughout the region, we have celebrated or will soon celebrate powerful holy days. We take these occasions to lift up our hearts in prayer for peace in our families, peace in our communities, and peace in our world.” Pérez added, “Please know that on behalf of all the Catholic faithful of our region, I pray for those intentions. May we attain that peace and may it be a lasting one. May this time of joyful celebration find you blessed abundantly.”
