Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre called on Catholics to support the annual Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which aids the Church in the Holy Land, according to a letter released on Mar. 27.

The collection is intended to help Christians living in the region who face significant challenges due to ongoing tensions and conflict. Archbishop Fabre said, “Christians in the Holy Land need our support and prayers as they continue to face incredible hardships in the region, especially with the ongoing tensions and conflicts. Families need basic things like food, medicine, and school tuition to ensure their children can receive a Christian education. Many Christians rely on the pilgrimage industry to make a living, which has been interrupted again by the violence in the region.”

The funds raised will go toward supporting sanctuaries, parishes, schools, university scholarships, healthcare facilities, friars preparing for priesthood and restoration of homes and apartments. Archbishop Fabre said this collection gives Catholics an opportunity “to express their solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land” and added that donations will “make a difference in the lives of Christians still living in the region and caught up in violence and instability.” He concluded his message by thanking parishioners for their generosity: “Thank you for your generosity and your prayers!”

The Archdiocese of Louisville promotes Catholic spiritual development and supports community outreach through its various ministries according to its official website. It maintains archives that safeguard historical documents from its institutions and clergy according to its official website, aligns with Roman Catholic Church teachings as an ecclesiastical territory according to its official website, aims to spread Gospel values while addressing human needs according to its official website, operates under guidance from consultative groups led by Archbishop Fabre according to its official website, and provides pastoral care across central Kentucky parishes according to its official website.

Looking ahead, church leaders hope continued support through collections like this one will provide relief for those affected by instability while strengthening ties between local communities of faith.
